EV Charger Installation in Sacramento & Placer County
Charge at home, on your schedule.
Magic Sun Solar installs Level 2 home chargers for Tesla, Rivian, Ford, Chevrolet, Nissan, Hyundai, and most other EV brands. Plug in when you get home, and your car is ready by morning.
We’re a licensed C10 electrical contractor, so the wiring behind your charger is handled by people who do electrical work for a living. We check your panel, install the dedicated 240-volt circuit, mount and test the charger, and take care of the permit and inspection. Start with a free electrical assessment.

Level 1 or Level 2?
Level 1 (120-volt outlet)
The cable that came with your car plugs into a standard outlet and adds about 3 to 5 miles of range per hour. That works for a plug-in hybrid or a short commute, but it falls short for most all-electric vehicles.
Level 2 (240-volt circuit)
Level 2 uses the same kind of power as an electric dryer and adds roughly 20 to 60 miles of range per hour, depending on your vehicle and charger. Most EVs fill up overnight, even from nearly empty. It needs a dedicated circuit, which is the work we do.
What’s Involved
- Checking your panel’s capacity against your current electrical loads
- Installing a dedicated 240-volt circuit, typically 40 or 50 amp depending on the charger
- Mounting the charger in your garage, carport, or outside near the driveway
- Testing the system and confirming the charger communicates with your vehicle
- Setting up WiFi and the app on smart chargers so you can schedule and monitor charging
- Permits and inspection, handled for you
Chargers We Install
Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint Home Flex, Grizzl-E, Emporia, ClipperCreek, and others. Already bought one? We can install it. Not sure what to buy? We’ll help you choose based on your vehicle, your budget, and the features you want.
Does Your Panel Have Room?
A Level 2 charger is a big load, comparable to adding a second air conditioner. Many homes with 200-amp service can take one without changes. Homes with 100-amp service, or panels that are already near capacity, may need one of these:
- A panel upgrade, such as 100 amp to 200 amp
- A sub-panel in the garage
- Load management that lowers charging power while other big appliances run
- Scheduled charging at off-peak hours
We’ll recommend the most cost-effective option for your home. See electrical panel upgrades.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to charge my EV at home?
It depends on your battery size, your charger, and how low the battery is. A Level 2 charger adds roughly 20 to 60 miles of range per hour, so most EVs are full by morning. A plug-in hybrid with a small battery may fill in 2 to 4 hours. A standard outlet adds only 3 to 5 miles per hour.
Should the charger be hardwired or plug-in?
Hardwired chargers connect directly to your electrical system and look cleaner. Plug-in chargers use a 240-volt outlet, typically NEMA 14-50 or 6-50, so you can take the charger with you if you move. Both are safe and reliable, and we’ll help you pick.
Should I install the charger in the garage or outside?
Either works. A garage protects the charger from weather and is the most popular choice. If you park in the driveway or don’t have a garage, we use weather-resistant equipment and mounting for outdoor installs.
Which charger should I buy?
The right one depends on your vehicle and the features you want, such as charging speed, WiFi scheduling, cable length, and hardwired or plug-in. We can recommend one or install a charger you’ve already bought.
Can you install chargers for more than one EV?
Yes. We can install two chargers or a single dual-port charger. We check that your panel can support them and may recommend load management that balances power between the vehicles.
Do I need a permit?
Charger installation is electrical work that requires a permit and inspection. We handle the permit application and schedule the inspection as part of the installation.
Can I charge my EV with solar?
A home charger runs on the electricity your home uses, including what your solar system produces. If you’re adding an EV to a solar home, it’s also worth checking whether your system should grow with it.
How do I get a price?
Cost depends on the distance from your panel to the charger, whether your panel needs an upgrade, how complex the wire run is, and permit requirements. We start with a free assessment and give you upfront pricing.
